As part of Critical Path’s research exchange program, Claudia Garbe will be undertaking a Critical Path Research Room Residency throughout September 2010. Claudia is studying Choreography (MA), Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch/ HüTZ in Berlin, Germany and will continue an exchange she began with Lizzie Thomson during her SODA Residency in Berlin 2009. Alongside these activities Claudia will be conducting an exchange workshop: Landscape and the Body from the 9 – 11 September and is keen to meet up and work with local artist to explore issues around landscape and the body; How does the surrounding landscape inscribe the body and how does the body leave traces in the landscape? Is there something like a foreign or a known landscape? How is the landscape informing my movement? And ... what kind of landscape is my body?
‘During my research-residency at Critical Path, I want to explore the relation between landscape and body:
Which movement happens, or emerges, out of the meeting/encounter between a landscape and my body? In my last work in Berlin, I was working with the question of the traces in the body and it's movements, and then in my Masterwork I brought this into a larger context; into the urban space around the river Spree, discovering new ways of creating frames for my body movement out of the encounter with this landscape.
For this workshop I would like to invite choreographers and dancers as well as artists from other fields to explore and share artistic methods of researching the relation between landscape and body/movement.’
If you are interested in taking part in this exchange workshop, please forward through a brief 1 paragraph bio about yourself, so Claudia has some background on the people who will be exchanging with her during the workshop. The workshop is for choreographers, dancers, composers, digital and visual artists.
